About

Hello! I’m Joy. (photo to come!)

I believe that yoga is a supportive and empowering practice, offering benefits that extend far beyond the physical—and through every phase of life.

As a teacher, I offer a welcoming space where students can tune into their bodies and inner selves, build self-trust, and grow more aware of their whole experience—on and off the mat. My approach is gentle, non-judgmental, and rooted in self-compassion.

Yoga has been a home base for me for 25 years—a steady practice that helps me feel good in my body, create headspace for clarity, and operate with greater awareness on and off the yoga mat.

My personal yoga practice has shifted with each phase of my life. In my early career days, a strong physical practice kept me balanced and healthy. During pregnancy and childbirth, daily asana and meditation deepened my trust in my body. Gentle yoga offered clarity and community during the busiest parenting years. Restorative yoga changed my relationship with rest, and has helped me process grief. These days, I love how yoga balances strength training—keeping me strong, flexible, and grounded (and helping with sore muscles after leg day!).

Over time, my focus has evolved from mastering “advanced” poses (hello, recovering Gen X over-functioner! 😉) to tuning in. While I still value the physical benefits, I’m increasingly drawn to how yoga practice also helps me feel present, embodied, and connected to something deeper. It is ultimately a practice of svadhyaya—self-study.

As a teacher, I hope to help people find their own “home base” in their bodies. To move with clarity and compassion—and perhaps many other emotions!—through experiences and phases in life.

Off the yoga mat, I am a creative director and run my own brand communications firm, study Modern Greek, and do projects in my historic Chicago bungalow and garden.
